Okay so I’m going to try to explain this… last week I brought a sample of water to my LFS because I noticed my GSP retracted.

I tried the ALK test with using my redsea kit and I couldn’t figure out results.

anyways, took my sample and be read my salinity using Hannah at 1.20 I checked before leaving and I read 1.25 … hmm

so he tells me that’s low then check either calcium or alk (don’t remember) and in his exact words, “it’s all out of whack” so he said do 2 water changes … 1 10gallon and use the purple instant ocean and then a week later do another 10gallon using same and bring it back.

** after first water change I noticed the GSP came out a little. But a few days later retracted (all other corals thriving especially the Duncan)

I went today, I compensated for the 1.25 and did 1.30 which on his Hannah should read 1.25…….

nope. It again read 1.20.

that has to be his Hannah isn’t calibrated right? He didn’t check anything because he said it would be all off.
I did the salifert test anyways at home and it came out to be within range

so frustrating

Are you using a refractometer properly calibrated to make your salt mix? If things are out of balance then water changes are the best course of action to begin with. Why don't you get some Hanna checkers and test all your parameters regularly yourself? Things can't be to far off if all your other corals are thriving as you state.

My Hanna salinity tester is not accurate for long. I tried calibrating it multiple times but within a week it falls out of calibration. And it always reads lower than what my actual salinity is. As far as I'm concerned, it cannot be trusted.

I don’t think it can be trusted if I’m using two sources and both are reading same.

As you can see my GSP are the only ones not coming out

Lol. Why would it be "all out of whack"? Are you dosing anything that would change water chemistry drastically? Definitely need a reliable salinity test to start with. Personally, unless the LFS has a machine I can't afford/don't have access to, the only reason to go to them would be to cross reference my testing (if it was out of whack)

Thank you! That’s what I was saying!!! He has the Hannah salinity tester but both times was 1.20 even though I gave him to difference readings

I also used to have a Hannah that wasn’t well calibrated. I traded her in.

Testing can be a bit tedious so I get the urge to have someone else do it but obviously this shop is a little "out of whack" :)
Lmfaoooooo did you see my pics of my corals. All good except GSP I said it to him and I think he ran with it

Well I'd think some of the other corals you have would be stressed if there was a major issue. GSP can be fickle I've found. Just last week I blew off a rock next to down flow of my gsp and it closed for 2 days. I was like what the... grows like heck but touchy ime

Good to hear? Do they require lot of flow? Lights?

Well from what I've read they will grow anywhere, under any sort of lighting/flow but mine seems to thrive under strong light and good flow (hard for me to articulate flow lol).

this is pumps off; gets relatively same light as bta... (i don't have a meter).

Flow...like a rolling field of wheat with wind moving across it...picture that? Not so that it constantly flattens but an occasional lay down is ok.. lol... I tried

and I've uploaded my first video to r2r ! :)
Can’t see it

oh wow okay nice what percentage are your blues

For a while (as a leftover from fighting the uglies), I was using my own schedule with my blues maxed and white near zero. Over time I was adding peaks of whites here and there until I recently just switched to the saxby schedule (max peak at 80%). I reduced the whites by 10 across the board because I think that zoa rock in the picture has some cyano..
