Hello -

I’m looking for some guidance on how to plumb my setup.

I attached a picture of what I’d like to do, only difference being - I want to install a frag tank underneath the refugium in the stand.

I’m looking to maximize effiency by avoiding the refugium overflow being recirculated back to itself.

Adding the 3rd smaller tank (frag tank) would obviously need to be connected to the sump underneath the main display.

The diagram looks good, I have a similar set-up with one of my systems.

If you were to add another tank, in the way you describe, I would run the overflow from the refugium into the frag tank, then have the frag tank overflow into the sump. That would save having to change the return pump design and simplifies the "from refugium" line.

That’s almost exactly how I have my setup done. My only issue is hearing water flowing in the drain pipe section circled in red... I’ve tried tuning the flow dozens of times. Not sure if the lateral flow has something to do with it or not.

Do you have one or two overflow lines from each tank?

The frag tank would be at the same level as the sump. Could I just connect the frag tank and sump together with a 3 inch pipe, same way people connect 2 sumps together?

Attached is the placement of my tanks.

The sump and frag tank will be st the same level and the 180 display and 90 refugium will be st the same level.

How would you guys/gals plumb this so it’s silent as well as directing as much from the refugium overflow to the display tank as possible without recirculating it back into itself?

A Bean Animal from the 180 is going to be as quiet as you can get it. Likewise two overflow standpipes from the 90 corner flow will be just a quiet.

Since you won't have gravity to move the water from your frag tank to the sump, you would have to plumb them together laterally. (Or raise the frag tank to allow for an overflow).
