Need help setting up 36 gallon bowfront, do i need a refugium?

I have a big canister filter for it already and im gonna get a powerhead for flow. Its gonna be a fish only tank. Probably gonna do a protien skimmer.dont really have space for a refugium, do i need one?

I’d do a refugium instead of the canister filter. Canister filters can become “nitrate factories”. Good luck!

How that that work tho wdym by nitrate factories and the only refuguim id be able to fit is a ten gallon.. so is it worth it?

The canister filters tend to trap debris, which raises nitrates. You might be able to get by with just a skimmer. Or you could add a BRS mini-reactor for carbon and gfo. They’re not that big. I have a 40g with a skimmer and the reactor for filtration along with live rock in the sump and that’s all I need. Good luck!

Thanks i have alot of free time so i would definitely clean the filter each week think it will work out thank you
