So I picked this up from my LFS, and it's on the tip of a long branch of dry rock, on top of a plug. I'd like to get it to spread on a nearby rock.

Should I just plant it as is on the rock, or cut it off near the top so it doesn't take so long to spread and stick to the rock. This is literally my first coral, so any advice is appreciated! Also, if anyone has an idea of what it's called, I'd be thankful for that too!

Sidenote: I just dipped it in a bit of peroxide to get rid of the gha and it's angry at the moment, I probably won't move it again till it cheers up again.

Just do what you said about cutting it off near the top and put it on whatever rock that you wish for it to spread ;)

Thanks, best tools to cut the rock? And superglue... or just set it?

Thanks for all the help, I'll order the tool this week.

Now, any ideas what zoanthid this is?? :)

Don't know what they are but you definitely have a nice lfs, all the zoa's at mine are just brown, maybe a touch of green in some. WWC all the way

I might give that a shot, I'm sure its cheaper. Thanks Josh

Honestly, to cut i just use the sharp part of needle nose pliers. Obviously your cutting tool will differ based on what you need to cut, but that stick almost seems like it can be broken by hand. Regardless, for a precision cut use some sort of tool. Once you cut it, use a dab of krazy glue and place it in a suitable spot in your tank. For glue... MAKE SURE YOU GET THE GEL VARIETY. They sell standard non-gelling glues, but these are runny and you risk covering your coral in a glue like film.

The best way to encourage growth is by putting it in a good spot, and letting it sit. In my experience, the corals that do the best are the ones I never move.
