So I have a biology degree but took many physics courses in college and loved physics! You could potentially jimmy rig a small mirror to reflect some light from the peripherals to the inner part of the tank without disrupting any light going to the rest of the tank. this would keep you from adding another light which would potentially be overkill for your reef. an experimental thought! what do you think? its the same concept of how fiber optic cables work through reflecting visible light without losing intensity. again this is experimental not proven. but part of this hobby is all about getting crafty!

What are the dimensions of the tank?

Adding another hydra would probably help.
