I recently was given a goby by the gf. She was told it was a sleeper blue dot goby. After acclimation she put in and surprised me when I got home. This does not look like a sleeper blue dot, more like a pink dot watchman without the pink. It is 1 1/2 long cream colored with very faint vertical stripes with blue dots all the back. He does not sift sand either like the sleeper. He's been in the tank for 6 days.

Does anyone have an idea what type of goby it might be? I'll try to get pictures if I can catch a shot of him when he not hiding.

That's going to be hard, he hides as soon as I come close to the tank. I want a sand sifter to stir the sand to loosen up detritus particles for the skimmer and filter. But I'm afraid of incompatibilty if I were to put a yellow head sleeper or jawfish in.

This is the guy.

I've never had a shrimp goby, can I add a pistol shrimp later or is it best for them to be introduced together.

Feel free to add one anytime. The two best options are the Tiger Pistol Shrimp and the Candy Cane/Randall's. I prefer the Randall's because it's smaller and more colorful, meaning it would move sand a lot less. But the tiger does get larger, which would be suitable for the watchman since they get rather large as well.

Just no bullseye pistol, those don't form relationships with gobies. Be careful of other pistols if they're not tigers or candy canes. Get an ID first!

Will do. I have a good LFS but their distributor sucks, but they fix any problems that the distributors make.
