I bought a tank and this stuff was all over the rocks. Then I added more rocks and this stuff spread within days. I think its an anemonae of some sort as I found two of them floating and one stuck to my finger.

So what is it?

Does it have any natural enemies that will eat it up?

Thanks for your help!

they are Majano anemones and can be a pain to take care of. They are similar to aptaisa but IME do not reproduce as rapidly, or 'spore' sending out babies when attacked. They are however more difficult to kill off. Some people have had success with aptasia killers like Copperbands and Peppermint shrimp, but its going to be a battle.[h=3][/h]

Yeah it's a majano anemone. They don't really spread like aptaisia anemones do but they do sting your corals pretty bad if they come in contact with them. Since you have a lot of them, I would HIGHLY recommend looking into making or purchasing an aptaisia zapper (also works on majanos). This is pretty much a sure fire way to kill them. Kalk paste is a bad idea since you have so many it will alter your water parameters and it doesn't work well on majanos in my experience. Also super glue and epoxy don't work either because the anemone will just come out from the side of where you covered it and you'll have glue and epoxy all over your rocks before you know it. lol.

Or honestly if it's an option....take the rock out and trash it and buy new, dry rock. :( These things are a huge pain in the butt when you have so many. You can also try nudibranchs although I'm not sure they will eat majanos.

I don't know how many you have, but I had several on some LR I bought. They were easy to gently pluck off with tweezers. IMO they have a more meaty body than aptaisa and are easier to get without tearing them up and making them spread. I waited until they were on the move because they seem to not have as good a grip on the rock....they came off easily.
