Hi All,

I’m looking for a little advice on what light to choose for my IM Lagoon 50. I’m considering 4 options: 2 AI Primes, 1 AI Hydra 26, 1 Radion XR15 or the Maxspect Razor X R5 150w. Here’s a little background on how I got to these. Saw a Hydra 26hd over a Red Sea Max E170 at an LFS near my house with two large Red BTA’s in it doing very well. This tank has been set up for over a year and I’ve seen it several times and it’s always looked great. So, I figured that the Hydra 26 would be a good way to go considering I’m planning to keep a Red BTA eventually. There’s always a however though right....so...however my tank is a little wider than the E170 (Lagoon 50 display area is 30x20x16) so I started thinking that two Primes might be better for spread and if one failed there would still be the other to run until a replacement arrived. Then the diffuser comes out for the Radion and I start thinking that this light is rated to cover the dims of my tank even though it’s only one puck so maybe that would be a better choice. And now I’ve seen the Maxspect which would fit my tank and offers 3 different sources of light which could mean even better coverage with less shadowing. My tank isn’t wet yet but will be soon, I’ve spent the last 6 months collecting everything I need to get going after a 3 year absence from the hobby. Never had LEDs before, the last tank had t5s. So I’ve been mentally buying lights for quite a while and it seems like there are too many good choices in the LED realm. I just need some perspective from others to help me decide what will be the best choice. I will be keeping mostly zoas, some euphillias and blastos, and eventually the anemone. No SPS, at least for now and probably not ever. If you have an opinion on any of these led fixtures vs the others please feel free to chime in. I’m not going for a t5 or hybrid solution so that’s a non-starter, opinions of these LEDs only please.

Thanks,

Check out SB Reeflights new "Ultra" line. I put a 45" Ultra on my 90 (48" long) and it covers perfectly. All kinds of adjustment on spectrums, programming on your phone, plenty of power, no fans, solid built. Great light.

Thanks for the suggestion. I looked at their webpage but the fixture is just too big. My wife is very particular about how this is all going to look and that isn’t going to be an option. The features were definitely there but it needs to be in a smaller package like some of the ones I mentioned. I’m having the same issue with the Maxspect Razor, it seems perfect except for its size.
