Not sure if this is the right sub forum, but i have an interesting problem.

My sister has a 20 gallon aquarium that she is trying to get back into shape (currently overrun with alagee and snails).

I would like to both help her out with her current problem, while at the same time tricking her into a goof LFS that has good saltwater systems in the hope she catches the saltwater bug.

The problem I have is that i am on the west coast, and she is in Harrisburg, PA

Does anyone have any recommendations on a good store in that region?

I'm in hbg area and unfortunately she's going to have to drive at least an hour to find a good LFS. [emoji20]

There is a place in Lancaster which might only be half an hour for her but I struggle recommending it to someone as a first time shop. It's a big store with lots of fish and coral, but not the healthiest, and she'd get zero to little help from the staff.

If you want her to go to a good store with great selection and service then I'd suggest Fintastic in Frederick MD which is about an hour from hbg.

Feel free to PM me if you want more local info!

personally i feel that the person running a failing fw system is going to find 10x the frustration with saltwater. there is just too many tasks that require regular attention and by the sounds of things she is running a tank that is on the verge of being shut down.
if you want her to become interested ask her to join you at the lfs when you go but be honest with her. this stuff is not cheap and the up front costs are significant.

Thanks for the feed back, and diffinetly agree with you landlubber, at this stage i am mostly wanting to show here how the hobby has changes since we are kids.

Right now her experience is mostly with fressh water places like petco. Walking into a nice saltwater place can often open the eyes of how “wide” the hobby has become.

I would take her to some of the places we have out here in silicon valley, but her being there and me being here.....

And also agree about the cost. Luckely her personality is one where if she becomes interested, she will do plenty of research and make good decisions (i am the crazy one in the family).
