funky growth in tank!!.jpg

i bought a saltwater tank last night from a lady she said that she tried everything to get rid of this coral. she said that she bought some new live rock about 6 months ago and a few weeks later a few of these showed up and now they are everywhere they a killing the other corals that are in the tank. any ideas on what this is and how to get rid of it.
she told me that she used something that the aquarium shop said to use to kill it off and it made it grow and spread even more thanks for you help

one other question is that she gave me alot of live rock thats in another tank it has been in saltwater but that is it no pumps or circulation would it still be ok to use in the aquarium "would it still be alive"

looks liek aptasia and it does kill coral if it touches them. the rock may have some life in it but with no water movement to create oxygen i would not put it in a tank that has fish or other BOUGHT life forms. if its just a tank of saltwater and rock then yes you could add it.

aptasia are very hard to kill i would maybe try some pepperment shrimp first and see if they would help take care of it. if they do they are your cheapest option

Looks like Aiptasia to me too. It's a pest anemone that spreads very quickly. Peppermint shrimp will often do the job. I've seen some people recommend injecting vinegar/lemon juice/kalk paste into them. This works if there's only a few like in your picture, but if the problem is more widespread it becomes too much work. If the rock is small you could just get rid of the rock itself. The shrimp will also only eat small Aiptasia, not large ones. They are tough to get rid of so quick action is the best bet.

WOW then umm yea maybe some bergia nudibrachs??? that would be the only for sure 100% way to do it.. but would take a while.

How big is the tank? I have heard certain file fish will readily eat aiptasia, but I don't have first hand experience with it.

the tank with all the Aiptasia is a 80 gal. will i have to take the skimmer and filters apart and clean them to make sure that their isnt any spores in them and what would be the best way to do this if i do?
