Hi I just bought a longnose butterfly and my Scopus tang is beating up on it. I don't want to lose the fish. How can I stop the aggression? How can Ikeep both fish?

1. How big of a tank do you have? this goes a long way.

now, provided your tank is not less than a 55 and they are smaller specimens, try putting a mirror on one end of the tank. your Scopas will then be more preoccupied with its own reflection that it will allow the new fish to acclimate. this works WONDERS for me with my Atlantic blue tang. he can be a true bully and this worked with new tangs and a CBB as well. Iuse a 6" round locker mirror. funny, and ill come clean here, its a justin bieber mirror. it was all walmart had at the time.

edit, 3 days of time and the Scopas should be done bullying.During this time, he will still occasionally chase the new fish, but not near as much. I like to use the end of a tank because they are mote apt to see it as they pace the length of the tank.

Hi there you could try Rearranging your rock This can help sometimes With aggression when I introduced a purple tang My yellow tang attacked him for two days Then just left him alone all of a sudden

I have a 180. I will have to try some of this stuff. What would happen if I bought a yellow tang and put it in with my Scopus. My Scopus tang never use to attack fish it use to be the peace keeper now it don't like the longnose butterfly. I added at the same time a orange shoulder tang and he leave him alone.

yea. you will have WW3 if you put that yellow in there. I have a 180 so Ive been in those shoes. that said, i currently have 4 tangs in my system. the naso is harmless. the Atlantic blue is the boss of the tank. he is a big bully. I added a Blue hippo and a powder brown at the same time along with some chromis and the powder brown was the target. put the mirror in and I had peace. i added a yellow pyramid butterfly, and had to use the mirror as well as use it again when I added a copper banded butterfly. Worked like a charm each and every time. the fish is more inclined to attach fish of its own kind then of similar bodytype/color.

Not saying it cant be done, but be prepared before hand

Some people have also had luck with printing off larger colored pics of the aggressor and taped the to the glass, but I have never used this method it is just what I have read. Good luck!

Agreed. Most times by the second day they are buddy buddy. Its just the first 24hrs thst are pretty brutal.

Re-arranging rock can and does work in alot of cases, but there are times it is completely impractical. I cannot re-arrange my rock without breaking off at least 20 acros and many other corals.
