Need help with Aqua clear 110 filter media

Hi, I have been running my Aqua clear 110 on my 60g tank for about half a year and I am using the included sponge and bio max, along with Chemie pure blue. I was wondering if I am maximizing the use of this filter and what to add/remove, thanks. Btw i don't have a skimmer.

I use one on my 16g RFA breeding tank. I took a felt filter sock and cut out a rectangle that is just a bit bigger than the sponge. I put it in between two of their sponge filters. Even in a small tank that gets fed very little, I have to clean the sock material once a week. But it does a really good job.
