Need help with BM Curve 5 Elite

I suggest. Leave it in sump for 48 hours. I just read you cleaned it. If I remember when I cleaned mine it did that. Put it on the max. So skimming wet and set it and forget it. If that bubble trap is now turned right I'll be alright. Althought. I had to put my curve 7 elite in 9 or 9.5 inches. 8.5 wasn't doing enough for me if I remember correctly. But if u just cleaned it. Let it break in and get that film layer on it. Report back. I'm curious

So one more quick question. Am I reading the dial wrong here? I am reading this as it's set to MIN. If that is indeed the case then this dial is still somehow backwards.

As you can see I have it back in a bucket of RODI water and it looks like it's working ok again. I am getting bubbles in the cup. This is also a little higher of a water level.

if it is working correctly in the bucket with a higher water level, then I suggest raising the water level in the sump. Also, this may sound like a dumb question, but is the tank running with saltwater and all, meaning you are not just testing it in freshwater before getting the tank running?

Yep it's an established tank going for about 6 months now. Just got this to replace my SCA 301 skimmer. Just weird that a lot of people I have talked with these around 7 inches. That was my main thing concern with buying due to the recommended water height.

I can always raise the level but I would probably have to adjust baffle height. 7 inches is about all I can run right now for my flow to correctly drop over to the return chamber.

Quick update. I had to leave the house for work today but before I left I checked and the skimmer is still not pulling water. Guess I'm going to have to figure out how to get my sump set to be able to raise the water level.

Evening update. I think we are finally getting somewhere! Like @Michael Gray was saying just give it some time. I was just worried because it seems the break in period for most seems to be they can't stop the overflowing. This break in seems to be the complete opposite.

my bubble magus didnt overflow. i believe it was yours if i remember... and when i cleaned it in water/Muratic and put it back in.. it also stayed low for a day until it built that new film layer..

That water height in the skimmer body still doesn't look right, too low as if your pump is not on full power. Just for curiosity, pull the skimmer back out and disassemble to get to the pump and check that the impeller is not cracked or that the magnet is not damaged.

Afternoon update. It's pretty much back to the same as you can see from the picture. I'm guessing I'm just going to find a way to raise the water level in the sump. I have the ability to raise it a few inches but isn't it recommend to let the water flow over the baffles?. If you look in my picture here you see I have it right at the baffle in 2nd chamber to flow into the return chamber. Will it hurt anything to raise the level as long as my salinity stays in check?

How new is tank and how new is the skimmer. Just let it go a week. But yes I'd suggest water level up to 9

Tank about 6 months old. The skimmer was right out of the box 2 days ago when I started the thread.

Do you have any additives to the display tank water such as vitamins, amino acids etc?

only thing i really add other than food, and reef roids is sometimes i will dose reef fusion 1 & 2. Other than that no.

Well I decided to see what would happen if I raised the water level. I turned off my return pump and let the overflow drain water to the sump. It runs like it's supposed to at this height. Anything below 9 inches and it just doesn't seem to do anything .

That was my main concern going with this skimmer was the recommended water level. I kept seeing all these threads about how people put them in 4 inches of water and still had overflow issues. I just don't see how that's possible.

So idk what I'm gonna do here. As you can see here this is a pretty high water level for my sump.
