Need Help With Filtration

Hi all, I got a 40 gallon breeder that I haven't set up quite yet. I'm waiting on my wavemaker and both of my lights to come in shortly. In the meantime I have gotten a hob AquaClear 70 filter as i didnt want to get into sumps just yet. I bought the chemi pure blue for it but was wondering what else i should have in the filter, like should i have carbon or what not. Thank you for suggestions

Chemipure Blue contains carbon and is all you should need in the HOB filter. The majority of your filtration will be done by the bacteria in your sand bed and on your rocks. Good water movement is important to maintain your biological filter.

Ok thanks, I saw some people were putting filter floss into their hobs and was wondering if i should do the same for mine. The wavemaker I got was a jebao rw-8 which should be good for my 40 gallon breeder.

Yes. That should move plenty of water. The filter floss works well in the HOB. Chemipure is effective but you do need to watch you don’t bottom out your nutrients(nitrates and phosphate) using it. Sure way to get dinos started is to bottom out your nutrients.

Right, how much floss should I put in with the chemipure, one on top and bottom? What would you personally suggest
