Just added this little guy at like 14:00 its now 24:00 he is not interested in the pellets at all they supplied

New fish often don’t eat the first one or two days. I wouldn’t worry about it until the third or fourth day.

At the same time , fish are rarely fed at midnight, maybe he’s used to sleeping at that time.

Okok so should I just wait and try tmrw? and also i dont have a local lfs so i would have to result to shrimp from supermarket?

Well first I assume your tank is cycled and made ready for a fish. If your tank is in good shape, it should eat within a day or two.

If not, I would suggest check your water parameters, and make sure the water is well oxiginated.

If the shrimp is fresh it might work, but no processed foods for our fish. There are lots of threads on this forum about different foods to feed. Lots of info to help you, research is an important part of this hobby. Good luck.

thank

captive bred banggai cardinal- thinking of feeding it tn either the pellets supplied to me or supermarket shrimp at this point…

try brine Shrimp (small) cardinals can be very picky.
I have a sun coral that I cover with a plastic top to feed, (to stop others stealing food) my cardinal only seems to eat from here, it ignores the general broadcast feed, it sits and waits for me to lift the cover off my Sun coral then he's all in picking off leftover

I contacted the seller yesterday and they told me to just wait and try again with the pellets supplied to me so I tried again an hour ago and the cardinal is so scared of my hand he goes in the far right corner of the tank so i place the food in the spot he is always in and same issue he refuses to eat it.

bc i dont have any and i havent been able to drive to closest lfs as it is a 2 hour drive and only open on saturdays. Thats why im asking if supermarket shrimp will work

Give it a few days to settle in. It can do without food for 5 days easy if it’s fat and healthy. Stop sticking your hand into the tank to try to hand feed it if that’s what you are doing. You can try some finely chopped clam or shrimp as has been suggested in a day or two.

If they supplied the pellet, fish was probably eating them, and he will again when he is acclimated to his new environment.
Shrimps from the shops can work but it must be very finely grated. if it is too big, the fish will not be able to swallow it and it will spoil your water.
I prefer flakes to pellet, as they do not sink as fast and it gives you time to drop the food, walk away and watch from afar if the fish will eat without scaring your fish. Also fish has more time to try and catch the flakes.
Fish will eventually learn that you are the food supplier, and come close to the front when he sees you.

Update: So the cardinal finally ate today!!
I stopped using the pellets and flakes and since i couldnt get brine shrimp or anything i finely chopped fresh supermarket shrimp and it worked sooooo happy rn
