My 75 gallon tank is 10 months old and is covered in hair aglea. I have been fighting this algea for 6 months aleast, if not longer. I do a 10 gallon rodi water change atleast evey other week, if not every weekend. I manually pull out all the ha everytime and vacuum the sand bed. I use a ati 48 inch 6 bulb dimmerable light running from 12am to 10pm full sun at 85% for 8 hours. They ramp up for a hour then down for a hour. Total 10 hours of light. No window light shinning on tank either. I have a new 75 gallon tank I'm replacing this one with. So I gotta pull all the rock anyways. Just wondering whats the best way to clean the rock without killing everything. Thanks in advance

Disposable eyelash brushes are great to help manually get rid of it.

What does your clean up crew consist of?
20 hermits, 20 bumble bee snails, 5 Artesia snails, 5 turbo snails, 5 Shirmp, 3 emarld crabs, had 1 arrow head crab and he just died, 2 lawnmower bleenys and 1 blue tang that eats it like crazy. The algea grows like 6 inches a week. I also have copods

Well I would suggest 3-4 tuxedo urchins but my god, if what you have isn’t even putting a dent in it I would think it would be pointless. Have you tried dosing the tank with hydrogen peroxide 3%. I believe it’s a5-7 day regiment. That was when my battle turned around. It could have just been a part of the other thins i was doing. Mine was not nearly as bad as yours. You are probably frustrated enough to consider the rip clean method, find the rip clean thread, good luck!

Nobody has tux urchins in stock locally. Does anyone order anything online ever and who do you use?

Your CUC will not touch that stuff with it being that long. Manual removal and brushing the rocks and then your CUC can maintain it. Just closely watch your Nitrates and Phosphates... you'd much rather battle GHA than Dinos

Like I said I pull it all out every weekend and it grows back within 7 days that long. I have checked my nitrates and phosphates and they are both 0 ppm. But I have read that they will show 0 when I have a lot of gha.

Reef cleaners had some in stock last I looked. I got mine about 1 1/2 years ago. I don’t remember where I ordered it from. My tuxedo urchin will eat slightly longer hair algae than any of the others. I tried to keep it short though.

3 percent Peroxide? 2.25 gallons in my 75 gallon tank over 7 days?
3% hydrogen peroxide. That is what is on the bottle, you can get it at a drug store, pharmacy, Dollar General etc. You add 1 ml per 10 gallons.

Also, I’m currently using reef flux for my gha. Not sure if it’s been killing it, but definitely has stopped/slowed the growth. Enough to let me do daily scrubs with a toothbrush. Small sections at a time to not upset the balance too much daily.

Might want a few more herbivorous snails. Reef flux has stopped growth, toothbrush for majority removal, snails and pods for root cleanup

That’s a scene out of dr. Seuss!

I got my tuxedo from algae barn. Does a pretty good job. I think they do 2 packs for a discount. Much cheaper than any of my LFS.
Thanks, that jogged my memory, Algae Barn is Where I got mine.
