hello everyone, i am new to the saltwater world and when i say new i mean like 1 week in new. I have got a 125 gallon tank and all the sand, salt, heater, sump and rock in now cycling. I got to get a light but right now i can not put out $600 for a very good one. I am doing a FOWLR tank. i do not know if i need to get two smaller lights or if i should go with one full 72in light. Can you guys help me with a good light? Thanks for any and all help

For a fowlr tank you dont need as much lighting as say a full on reef, but take this into consideration that someday you will prob want corals and will want/need to upgrade anyhow. There are multiple LED options out there, and you could always buy more in the future to be ready for corals. Reefbreeders, buildmyled are two of the cheaper but better options out there, I have heard good things about both companies and I myself will be diving into the LED market very soon with one of them.

I would definately check out some leds. In the long run they will pay for themselves . Invest now and when you decide to get some corals you are ready.

thanks for all the input it helps alot. Will i be needing to get two lights cause all i see is that most of them come in like 24in and 48in?

If your truly doing a FOWLR, you only need light to see what’s in your tank. A dual four foot shop light form Home Depot would probably be enough light to light up that six foot tank.

You could pick up a T12 Fixture for ca $13, but I’d prefer the T8 Fixture for ca $20….it’s more efficient. If one fixture isn't enough light, pick up a second.
