This brown macro algae recently popped up in my tank. I need help identifying it and picking a good strategy for eliminating it from my display tank. A foxface and white tail tang won't eat it so I am manually plucking what I can off the rocks and started with one dose of vibrant.

Look up bryopsis and see if that matches what you're seeing.

doesn't seem to be bryopsis. my algae has thicker leaves than the fern like leaves of bryopsis.

It almost looks like caulerpa of some sort. Let's see if anyone else from #reefsquad knows :)

I think Vibrant is a good choice. Its not a variety of algae I am familiar with.

Red Gracilaria, i never removed it to say how to remove it, grew in my sump well. In dt my clean up crew would eat this before anything else.

That is the closest I have seen, but I assumed it isn't because the foxface won't eat it. I used to grow it in my sump and then feed my foxface and tangs. They would tear it up. There is no way I could grow any in my DT.

Perhaps its a species they they find unpalatable, or his tang and fox face having never had it, are uninterested.

Like when you only feed pellets, and try live food and your fish wont touch the “good stuff”?

still looking for help with ID and removal. it's definitely not red gracilaria. i'm only on week 3 of vibrant and don't see much improvement (how long does it take to have an effect on macro algae?)

Are you dosing 2 times a week?

If you aren't seeing any improvement after 3 weeks, and aren't having a cyano issue, I would kick it up to 2x per week. Just keep monitoring your NO3 and be prepared to dose some if it drops below 5ppm. Vibrant is great at knocking down NO3 which can lead to cyano blooms. The best prevention is keeping NO3 above 5ppm.
