I just got a dual metal halide fixture as a trade and when it was traded bulbs worked fine it set about a week before i started it again now the all you see when you turn them on is a blue spark going across but not coming on changed the bulbs with brand new ones and same deal what can i do to fix it

sounds like the ballast is out. the bulbs are not firing off. Make sure your wiring is good and of so, look to get a new ballast.

thats what i was thinking it has 2 ballasts with it one tries hard to come on while the other won't do anything i had a bad feeling about that trade lol what seems too good to be true usually is. Traded my 125gal for a 55gal reef with dual halides and dual t5hos already had to replace bulbs and holders on the fixture now looks like i got to buy all new ballasts

So, this is NOT an advertisement or anything, but What wattage are you looking at? I have three 175 watt electronic ballasts by Icecap sitting in a tote in my garage if that fits your bill ill make you a sweet deal on them.

Seem odd that 2 ballasts went out at the same time.?? I could understand 1 but not both at the same time.
I would check all the connections ,including inside the fixture.

Ok, I assumed it was one ballast. Trouble shooting here. Swap the lamps out, one with the other, you may have one lamp bad, and one ballast. The one that tries to come on may be the ballast, specifically the Starter, which can be replaced by itself, the other that doesn't do anything, may be the lamp.
