I got this Gorgonian five days ago and it’s been doing great, except for the tips I’ve realized seem to have some of the ‘skeleton’ exposed, and close to some of the tips the polyps are seemingly gone and it looks smooth and lighter in color. Does anyone know what this is?

This is what they do when dying, info about your tank? Parameters and age? Not sure if that’s a NPS gorgi but if so they need to be fed a proper diet.. I would cut the dead parts off to stop algae from growing on skeleton which will further irritate it.

I can’t test for parameters because I don’t have the testing supplies, I know I should but I just haven’t gotten to it especially with cost being an unemployed fifteen year old. My tank has been running for about ten months now. All I know is this Gorgonian grows in Floridian waters like a weed. Should I cut off a very small part of the living coral? Or just the dead?

I would just clip the exposed skeleton even with the flesh and see what happens.

That’s usually the result of exposure to air. Some gorgs just simply crumble others seem more resistant

Thanks for the information. It’s polyps are now open, should it be okay? Or is it hard to say?

Increase water movement. note it needs to be indirect. Target feed as well. Reef nutrition has products that will work well for these guys and others. Good Luck
