I’m need some advice as to why, after 4 days my hammer still has not opened up. I purchased the hammer from a local petco, it was in good shape by the way. The colors on it looked iridescent and light blue. Never seen one with this color. Well, I brought it home, still opened, and I got everything ready for the dip. I had purchased a acan from another LFS, Salty Aquatics and Fish, before I stopped at petco. So, I dipped both corals for 10 min, as which the directions are stated on the CoralRx. I put them both in my coral/invert QT. Tank has been running 4 months, and I do my scheduled biweekly water changes on all my tanks. I started to notice that it looks like the hammer is peeling or something.

All water parameters are normal, nothing elevated or to low. Only thing I can think of is maybe the water from petco was so different that when put in my water put it in shock. But here’s the thing, there was a little piece of a coral growing on the substrate at petco.

I asked the person helping me if I can just have it since it really wasn’t anything to them and just randomly growing at the bottom. The piece is no bigger that a dime. This coral is thriving, opens up and closes when lights go out.

this is the acan that was bought the same day. Very puffy and always looks like it’s hungry with its tentacles out. So, can anyone please let my know what you think it might be. Is it still acclimating? Is it in shock? Or is it dying?
Thank you in advance for any and all input.

Dips can be hard on corals. Hopefully yours will open up. I had a hammer for about 20 years that was killed by dinos. Any idea what the brown stuff in your tank is?

it’s a diatom bloom, tank has been running for about 4 months. I had snails in there but the hermits kept killing them and taking the shells. Water params have been good, I wrote them down but I can’t remember off the top of my head.

Update:
Hammer still has not opened up and looks to be getting worse from the pics my wife sent me.

im still not sure as to why it has not turned around yet. The other 2 corals are doing great and still look the same as the day I got them. It’s irritating not knowing what the issue is
