I have a new nyos 160 and on a new tank and it won't stop just skimming crazy. I don't know if it just needs to be broken in. I have tried opening and closing the valve but that makes no changes in the amount of over skimming
I have messed with the air tube tunning and the only thing that does is change how much bubbles are being formed not really changing the water level in the skimmer. If anyone has any ideas thank you!

Have you done a water change yet? That helped with my frag tank. Skimmer was going nuts until I did one.

I have not, I honestly haven't even started my cycle yet. I have turbo start ready to go but my salinity is still low. I'm finishing my control cabinet tomorrow and will have my tank complete and ready to cycle should I wait to run the skimmer until then or leave it on until it breaks in? I just didn't know if a break in period can really cause the skimmer to not even lower in water level at all when you adjust it

Can you put something under the skimmer to raise it out of the water a little? Some people use bio blocks.

I can! I was think about buying some tomorrow if yellow think this could help. I can raise my water as well

If I remember right, been a while since I’ve owned one. The screw valve is for minor adjustments. You need to rotate the whole tube for the major adjustments have you tried spinning the whole tube not just the screw?

I just started using the Nyos 160 about 2 months ago and had the same problem. I lifted it up using egg crate so it was sitting in 8" of water. It took about 2 weeks to break in. You probably just need to let it run for a couple weeks and adjust the height after it breaks in.

Like what was said above, you can rotate the whole tube so it’s completely open or closed. It will take some time to break in. Some people will soak their skimmer in some Citric acid or vinegar, to help break it in too. A water change will definitely help, but if you haven’t finished the cycle yet I wouldn’t. Best bet right now, is to keep it running with the cup off and let in overflow.

Did you try rotating the whole tube?

Thank you guys so much! I will let it just run since I'm not in a hurry to have it broken in right away if it takes longer than 2 weeks ill probably run it in vinegar and after its broken in ill go ahead and raise that level thank you guys again for all your input!

Hi. How quiet was Nyos when bought? Did it get more silent after break in period? My is runnig for 2 days and it is quite loud...

Mine is quite. It for sure was loud when I first got it because I was think like wow I thought everyone said it was silent but it got quieter once it broke in. Probably the best skimmer I’ve owned honestly
