Ok I need a little guidance. I see that i have 3 options at this time as I want to drill tank. Glass holes overflow or a bean or a herbie. And also which one depicts which pump I buy so im at a stand still untill this is figured out. I currently have a cpr overflow box but its rated for 1200 or so gph lol. Can I run only say 200-400 gph through it effectively? I dont want to much flow through my sump so my skimmer doesn't skim well. I am new to the whole sump setup kinda. I have almost always used hobs. But almost everything i have read said sump flow should only be about 3x the volume of tank per hour. Is this accurate? Or would I be ok with say 600 gph? I pretty much want to do this right from the start.
Tank is a 40 breeder with about 10 gallon maybe more sump

I think 600gph through a 10g sump is a bit much, I wouldn't.
As for the CPR and its flow rate, you could run what you wanted through it, the only draw back is that it waits to be filled in order to drain. So I'd have a very good powerhead on it to keep it from losing its siphon. Aqualifter isn't one I would use, I had one, and those things aren't very reliable.
If your drilling, I'd go with the Bean Animal, if you use 1 1" pvc for your intake, you could run up to 900gph, so thats all you would need, you could run it at whatever gph you wanted to.
The flow through on a sump in anywhere from 3x your volume and up.

Ty for the reply The skimmer i have is the SC Aquariums SCA-301 65 Gallon Protein Skimmer.
Would running more gph affect its performance?

No, it wont matter. The skimmer pump will grab what it can. Its never gonna be a perfect balance.
