It's very easy don't over think it. One pipe out from the overflow and one pipe in for a return. I went minimal on mine. Flex hose drain pipe to the sump, braided vinyl tube to a 1" PVC over the edge return. (Straight up, 90 degree, another 90 degree, down into the tank and another 90 degree to aim the flow out.
