A while back I had to sell some of my high end zoas. I have been trying to get a frag of them back and one of the people I sold one to was kind enough to trade some other zoas for a few. She didn't want to frag them up herself so she gave them back to me and wanted me to frag them up. Rastas Red Hornets and Goochsters. The Goochsters and Red Hornets have seem to do fine in my tank but the Rastas look like they are still trying to open. I did a coralRX dip and a good acclimation. I placed them on a frag rack at the bottom of my tank. Can you guys think of anything that I can do to try to get them to open. The last thing that I want is for them not to make it.

Help me you Zoaologists!

I got these on Monday morning. I figured maybe a day of two to open would be fine. It's been three days now :(

I hate it when zoas will not open.

Perhaps a lugols dip may help, although not sure how much help it will be if the RX did not, I'd still consider it tho if you don't see improvement.

It actually doesn't look too bad, I hope it opens up today for you...

Thanks. I have had some that haven't gotten this far. I may dip them again later today if I don't see any progress. I don't have any lougals on hand and don't think a store around here sells it.

Maybe change their lighting/flow if they have a history of not liking that location? Take that with a grain of salt tho, I think a lot of times coral can recover if just left alone.

Check your phosphates with a Hannah checker. Do you run any carbon or phosphate remover? I hope it's not too late for your Rastas. They are me of the "meltier" zoas.

I'll move them to see. It was the same spot they were in before but with coming from another tank they may not be used to the intense lights and flow. Thanks for the ideas. I appreciate it :)

I have GFO and carbon as well as a ball of chaeto the size of a small beach ball.

I have a few more things to try now. Thanks again for the link.

Did they open up for you?? Did you end up doing an Lugols Dip?? I had a similar situation with my fruit loops that i recently got. 6-7 polyps were acclimated and opened fine in my tank... 7 days later or so they were closed up. I did a Coral Revive Dip with very little response after 2 days. I then did a Lugol's did and after 2 days most of the polyps have opened up and the frag is looking healthy again!! I swear by Lugols as being a magical fix for zoas...it has fixed many in the past too.
good luck!!

Thanks for the info. They looked like they were trying to open so I did not dip them. I have just waited and they have opened slowly, very slowly.

I have been keeping an eye on them and they have done better. I may go ahead and dip them anyway.

This was a few days ago. Making progress!
