Have a reef octopus refugium hob when I turn it on it overflows. Any ideas Thanks

I am not familiar with this type of skimmer but all skimmers have a "volute" knob (could be a twist pipe) that you can adjust to adjust the water level in the skimmer. If that is not the problem, you may want to check the pump in the skimmer as that could be clogged (or an airline could be clogged). Is this brand new or did you buy it used from someone?

Not all of them adjust like that. The octopus bh-100f adjusts by raising and lowering the cup position. We need to know what model he has.

He's talking about a refugium, not a skimmer, so I'd say it sounds like possibly a clog in the outlet? Have you tried disassembling the outlet pipe to see if there's anything lodged in there? You may also want to try rotating the outlet so that the water exits just above the water line to prevent any backpressure. Could you possibly take pics of the fuge and then we may be able to answer your question better.

Thanks for the replies. I think i've got it fixed thanks everybody i'm new to this this a helpful forum!

Err so what was the issue then. Its always nice to post what the actual fix was incase another new reefer has a same or similar issue .. they could use this thread to help themselves.. and you would be admired by all for passing along valuable information :)

Hello, I relize that it has been over a year since you have started this thread but i have the same problem and i searched every forum looking around and i found you. If you ever look at this forum again please reply I have no idea what to do with my fuge.:ooh:

Manadrin girl
Do you have the same refugium if so you need to just clean the outlet to where the water Flows back into the tank or if the pump you have on it is too strong try to dim that down a bit hope this helps

yes, I do have the same mode,I know because reef octopus only makes on type on HOB refugium. I could try cleaning out the outlet pump but I dont think that is the problem. The pump has no dials so I cant turn down/up how much water flows in. I am thinking abut scavaging around for a smaller pump that would still fit the pipe but that would take a long time depending on whats available.

you could try to figure out a way to plumb in a ball valve to the return line to dial back the pump a little.

I used to have the same fuge and you have to make sure that the outlet tube is cleaned make sure you don't have any snails in the fuge either I couldn't figure out why mine would over flow till I put a camera on it so I could watch it all the time and found A snail that would climb over the outlet tube restricting flow out and overflowing water...

Hmmm I don't have anything in the fugue besides live sand and the outlet pump is not attached to the side of the tank so I don't know if that's the problem but I can check any way.

Try restricting the amount of water coming into the refugium, sounds like its pumping in faster than it can pump it out. Not sure how the HOB type fuges work though....
