I need help fitting this on the pipe. I have no idea how to put this on because they aren’t the same size. I got the sump on Craigslist and it came with this so I’m assuming it goes on here. Any advice is welcomed.

Appears to be a strainer (so fish or other doesn't get through) which also looks as though it was glued to cover the just to the left of your hand in this pic.
Edit as I see it is your sump; Do you have an external pump? It was used so critters would not get sucked into your return pump if so.

Yes.
You will want to dry fit plumbing from the pump to the connection you see protruding out of the back of the sump with a union joint.
Then out of the return to the DT install the PVC pipe with a valve also attached with union joint to adjust the flow. I'll try to locate some of my older pics to help in case this was clear as mud, or if someone has some pics on hand to show would save some time of my searching through old builds would be cool.
*Screw the external pump in position atop a good bit of thick rubber to reduce vibration.
Hope this helps some, but I could actually show better in this case rather than trying to explain it. argh.

I believe This is what Captain is talking about. You can see where the Union Joint is near the tank. I don't have a strainer.
