Hello,

Sorry if this wrong place to post this, but I'm need some help identifying a wrasse. It was sould to me as a Yellow Tail Wrasse, but upon doing pretty extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that it is actually an Anmpses lineatus. I juswant to see if anyone else would concur with this.

Thanks a bunch in advance!

Thank you! I was reading up about him and it says expert care for them but he is doing great! I've had him for 5 or 6 months and he's eats any food I put in the tank.

Bali lined wrasse and not an easy specimen to find and not cheap either. Places like live aquaria will likely have one here and there - Not that I trust that company with shipping

Wow! Ok that's cool to know! Like I said he was sold as a Yellow tail tamarin wrasse and I think I paid somewhere between $50 to $70 for him can't remember though.

I completely agree with you about liveaquaria my wife's cousin order from them a couple times and the fish never made it past 24 hours and his tank has been running for about 3 years. I know I would never order from them.

As far as the store I bought this wrasse from is kind of a joke. They have a great selection of fish and they are super clean but there's been 3 or four occasions where the fish I thought I was buying wasn't the actual fish that they told me or had marked on the tank. The latest 2 were a "pair" of blue throat triggers upon getting them home and going on Google and looking at different specimens I quickly realized that they were definitely not a pair but 2 males. And the second one was a Chinese/Stocky hawkfish. Get home and once again looking to see what they can end up looking like and come to find out it's not a Chinese hawkfish that could max out at around 8 inches but a giant hawkfish that in the wild can grow to 23 inches and around 10 lbs or so.

Is the fish eating/what if anything were they feeding at the store? You may need to feed live feeder shrimp until you can wean onto frozen and then hopefully prepared. Once they eat something other than live, easy as any wrasse...

edit: missed that second post lol happy to hear it's going well

Also, Anampses are known for being finicky so if he’s eating then you’re already a step ahead!! Love that A. lineatus, it’s a beautiful specimen but also won’t stay small :)

Yeah he's actually a great fish. He picks at the rocks all day long and besides that his main diet is reef nutrition chroma boost and mysis.

As far as the size not worried he's in a six foot long tank so I think he'll have plenty of growing room!
