Had to do an emergency tank swap lil over a week ago and had use my hexagon tank as the other belongs to my now ex girlfriend. Never really used this shape before as it was a freebie that i just recently resealed.

First with all rock from original tank.

Still not 100% sure, suggestions?

Good afternoon everyone,

Been playing with some STAX rocks to go into my new JBJ 45, and looking for some opinions. Each of these have been disassembled and I’m currently stacking and restacking my rock so see what I like and to hopefully land on something that I’m in love with, lol...

These are a few that I’ve come up with so far, I think the arch is my favorite so far... or the last one, but I’m trying to avoid a walled look, and I keep ending up that way... let me know what you think and I’ll keep on stackin! Have a good one!

The Arch:

My favorite is the shelf, but I would make one side taller than the other.

Is it stable? It looks a bit odd because you can easily see each rock individually even not taking into account the color, which will be the same with time.

Stable ish, gonna putty it once i figure final setup. There is just so little room, never scaped a hexagon before.

I would try a single structure with some passages between the rocks, that the fish will appreciate.

That looks like some fun rock to play with! Can you make one structure that leans really far to one side and then leans far to the other side to counter balance it? Obviously you’d need to epoxy it to do that.

I would love some advice from you guys. I have the feeling it's got too much of a 'wall' effect and I'm more going for 2 separate structures

What would you guys do?

I would also like to have some advice for coral placement and future corals that would look good in this tank since I have no idea of what to add in here

The Arch is cool looking, but I like the Shelves 2 best. Looks like more hiding places for fish too :)

I could use the help myself. What I have is likely too much rock and bland design. I could use some input before I start filling.

My goal was to ensure I had rock high enough to get some acros up closer to the lights along the back wall and in dimensions as well. Problem is I've filled in everything else worrying I won't have enough surface area to plant the eventual corals I see in the end game.

Help. I am not digging the wall in my 150. Thinking of removing the shelves that are circled.

I think you need 2 tanks, both rocks are very interesting by themselves.

Depending on the kind of fish and corals you are planning to have there, I wouldn't scrape off the idea you showed with the 2 rocks. You still have some open space in front. If the tank will not get lots of corals that grow a lot in all directions, this layout is really amazing. It's almost like a sculpture.

Hi guys, I finnally finished the acquascape and filled the tank. I think it looks good and I am very happy with it. I will need to be careful with the selection as to not have a cramped tank.

It's a nice tank to look at even without corals. It will only get better, I would just be careful not to let the corals close that valley and I would also try to keep a good part of the sand free of corals too.

Sounds like a good start. If you are willing to go further, begin with the placement of the larger rocks on the sand and them proceed with the smaller ones making them connect as seemless as possible. The 2 structure layout (one of them twice the size of the other and not splitting the tank in the middle) would suit that tank very well.

It's a tough job to scape that tank with your requirement and the rocks all having very similar size.

I would restart by creating larger pieces. Try to see which are the ones you can glue together. The idea is to build a few seemless structures with the rocks that you can more easily fit with each other. If you can use 5 or 6 rocks to create bigger ones, it will give you a much more natural look than having all rocks with the same size.

The main problem you have there is that the structures have all the same height.

Here's an idea:

Thanks. This is what I came up with yesterday. I removed a lot of rock. It looks better in person and I think it looks good. My OCD isnt triggered now. :-)
