Need help with your aquascape?

Hi Ardeus! So I am just starting out and would love your input on my 29 gallon. It is 30 inches across the top. The only thing I have is sand, a fake coral from TJMax and no background or live rock yet. I will be adding beginner live corals down the road. That is an extra filter on the front to clear up the water. Thank you!

It sounds like that fake coral was not made for aquarium use. Things like that can release toxins into the water.

Yes, that has occurred to me. It is made with a plastic resin on an acrylic base. I showed it the guys at the LFS and they said no problem. They really know their stuff. I have been dealing with them for years.

I have finally gotten to the point where I am aquascaping.

For my 625 XXL (59''l, 23.6''h, 25.6''w) I've got about 130 pounds of various Marco rocks and I've spent a few hours in the last days to get to the state shown below.

Any comments? I'm quite happy with it for now, however will let it sink in some more. I really have zero experience with what various corals will do to the current shape of the structure.

Ok, so I have removed the fake coral from the tank. Would love your drawing/suggestion for a design with rock.

Wow, tons of space! Your scape will leave lots of space above for things to grow up.

My only concern would be trapping detritus between the rocks in the stacks. At first you will be able to open it up for cleaning easy enough but once you have a bunch of corals growing maybe not so easy.

Yeah even if you directed the return behind that rock wall you are still gunna have a hard time preventing detritus from building up. Easy enough to fix by removing every other rock or making some arches. That tank has lots of potential!

I think it look great. I see you have some spare rock you could try add it to the right island to make it a bit taller but only if you can get it to match in well. The scape looks great and so natural so make sure it doesn’t look like a rock dropped on top.

I just ordered a Waterbox 130 and am trying to determine the best scape for this new build. That said, any recommendations on a shopping list? I feel that it is more important to get advice up front before purchasing the dry rock versus working with what you have.

There is no "best scape", only what you like the best. So I would just look up scapes for that tank and similar ones and try to replicate whichever you like the best. That being said, there are some factors that make more functional scapes than others. BRS has a great video for those aspects:

Hello:
I set my tank six years ago and now the left corner has been taken by the anemones, 11 in total. So I removed a piece of rock taking 5 anemones out. Now I have an empty corner and wonder how to reassemble the aqua scape in that corner keeping the same base rock. Should I create an island on the left by removing the piece that makes a bridge from the center to the left base rock, I will loose some of the Green star polyp colony but maybe helps keeping the anemones in one place. What do you think? Any ideas are welcome.
