I received a shipment of fish last week. 2 Pakistan butterflies, 2 Randall’s shrimp gobies. 2 pearly jawfish and 2 sharknose gobies. The first butterfly died a few hours after acclimation. The second developed two red sores on his body 2 days later and I started to treat with the trifecta. He died the following morning. One of the sharknose gobies developed an infection as well and died the morning after I saw it. Then one of the jawfish developed a red sore on his body and died the following day. Now the other jawfish has had his tail essentially fall off and I don’t expect him to be alive when I get home. So that would be 5 of the 8 that have passed. The trifecta has not seemed to curb anything. The remaining 3 gobies look really good, are eating and acting normal. Should I just continue treating with what I have been or try something else. The only other medications I have on hand are acriflavine and copper. If the jawfish dies do I continue to treat the other fish even if they show no signs of infection. BTW this is in a cycled 20gal QT tank with lots of pvc fittings.

That is a lot of fish to be adding at one time.

I would add NFG to your medication list. Especially for butterflies.

Butterflies are succeptable to bacterial infections. Bacterial infections are becoming as much of an issue now as external parasites.

+1 Exactly ^^^ NFG is amazing on butterflies and other similarly shaped fish. You could also give the fish(s) a 60-90 minute bath in a temp & salinity matched bucket/bowl with RRR (acriflavine). It's antiseptic and antibiotic qualities can help the fish's immune system to fight off the bacterial infection.

Thank you guys very much. Would it be ok if I used tank water that has the trifecta in it for the acriflavine bath or does it need to be none medicated water? I would discard after the bath and replace with fresh salt water. Should I give a bath to the so far unaffected fish?
