I been dosing Aqua forest component 123, 72ml each. My Aklinity and Calcium are spot on and been stable but my Mag consumption is not the same and it slowly rises to the point I have to stop dosing component 3. To combat this issue instead of dosing every day I does component 3 only 3 times a week.

I know I am not suppose to do this, but I have tried 5 test kits all show the rise. For two weeks I let this go just to see and my mat was just shy of 1450. So I stopped again and went back to 3 times a week.

I do automatic water changes using AF reef salt and tested those batches and they seem ok between 1280 and 1370.

So hence the question, any idea? Or leave it alone since it is working?

How many stony corals do you have?
How are they doing?
If your tank looks good and everything is healthy...I’d leave it. If it’s not broke...don’t fix it!

5 and Getting ready to buy more. I have 8 in quarantine that will be put in about two weeks.

I have two clams, some zoa and Xenia in the tank.

Everything in the tank looks great and thriving just was not sure if I did not dose the mag at the same level will it cause me issues.

Magnesium helps to stabilize alkalinity and Calcium. Magnesium levels should be held consistently at roughly 3X your calcium level.
Best of luck to you!

But my calcium and alkalinity are stable so I will continue monitor it and increase it when I see it drop and hope they all equal out someday.

I dose component 123 as well and had a similar result. My tank has been running for nearly 2 years now and I’ve been dosing since very early on. My Ca varied between 400-500 whilst the tank was stabilising and has now been stable at 400-430 for several months, currently sitting at 430. Mg however rose quite early and stabilised at ~1560. I tried dosing less, and then no, Mg for several months to reduce the levels but that didn’t affect the readings.

2 1/2 months ago I went back to equal dosing and the tank has never looked happier. Mg is still sitting at 1560 but it isn’t causing any issues I can see. I am going to stick to equal dosing from now on.
