need help

I built a 46.5 gallon tank and added a bag of reef salt to it designed for 55 gallon and it reading 1.018 specific gravity..is the filters taking up the extra or what am I doing wrong?

What are using to measure the specific gravity?

I believe some of the bands lie about the actual amount on the bag or box. Also most say they mix up under 1.025 also.

I think you just need to add salt until the specific gravity is right. I don’t think you be done anything wrong and it certainly could be the filter that’s increased the volume of water therefore reducing the specific gravity.

instant ocean reef salt

You will need to add more salt as they aren’t exact. I have to use more one bucket and less the next bucket to get the 1.026 for my tank. Don’t be alarmed with this at all.
