Turn it down to a fifth of what it was running or a tenth whatever it takes to keep it from running dry and overflowing the tank

ThanksI would for now turn the pump down more and then see what they guy can do for you but you dont want the pump running dry and a little less flow is not going to hurt anything
Question-will increasing the diameter of the drain pipe after the bulkhead as it leaves the overflow box help? I can't increase the size of the of the bulkhead because the glass is tempered.Sounds like the return pump is too powerful for the size of drains .
I’d try restricting the pump down a little and see if that helps .
or increasing the drain hose diameter
Will do. ThanksWhat you need to do
Unplug the pump but be ready to turn it back on very quickly. If the power happens to go out it will happen anyway.
Let the water drain down to the sump and watch if it is going to overflow. If it gets close to the top plug the pump back in.
This will tell you if you are in danger of a flood or not because there is too much water in the system.
It will also tell you if you can add more water if it is no where close to full.
