Need ich management advice please

The wrasses looks much better today!

I don't see any on my red-head solon wrasse. I'd say half the count on the exquisite wrasse!

My tang appears free of spots too. I did see two or 3 spots on one of my barred gobies.

but the fact the ich improved makes me feel better.

Glad they are showing improvement!

I'm a noob, so take this with a grain of salt. I think you may have had ich in your system for awhile and that you have been practicing ich management without knowing it. When your clown died, it was the trigger that stressed the fish in your tank. Since the wrasses tend to have thicker mucus coats, they have less of a natural tolerance to ich. When the stress event occurred, the fish that were normally more exposed to the ich were less impacted. The wrasses had less natural resistance to it and were more impacted.

I think PaulB would be proud of you that you could maintain such a healthy tank that you could have had ich and not notice it!

That really does make sense. I know ich can happen from anything and everything. I take comfort in your words- I appreciate it!

So.. two of my wrasses are covered in ich. Which means I have ich in my 75g tank and drives me mad because I QT'd all my fish.

I might've put the tang in too soon though..After 4 weeks of being clean in QT, I put the tang in, and a week later it developed some ich. That was my fault for assuming all was OK. About 2 weeks after adding the tang, my two wrasses has ich. My other fish seem OK for the time being. They are all eating like pigs and very active, even the wrasses with ich. They don't seem to be in distress.

Here's the tricky part.. I do not have space or funds for another large tank or multiple tanks to QT all the fish to let my DT go fallow. My 10 gal QT is currently occupied by new fish and I can't add more to it. I can't even shell out an extra $50 for used equipment on craigslist at this time.

Currently, I am doing my best to work with "ich management" in the tank by doing more water changes and adding garlic to boost the fish immune system. I want to add UV sterilizer.. but again.. no funds.

I am not sure what else to do.. I can't add copper as I do not want to kill my inverts.

Can someone please offer me advice?

Oops--Sorry I hit post reply accidentally in the above post!

I would suggest you try No Ich by FishVet. It's an amazing product and will not affect your inverts. It's available at Fosters and various other online reef sellers. It's a simple process and has a doser built right into the bottle so there's no guess work. I hope you don't mind my asking if all your parameters are where they need to be or if there's any discord amongst your fish, i.e., aggression, bullying, etc. These are just a couple of the many things that can cause an outbreak. One other question is are you purchasing all your fish from the same seller or?

My fish are from the sale lfs- minus one. I trust this LFs as their fish seems to be healthiest and people are most knowledgeable

All water testing is to par

My tang can be a jerk but he's settled down a bit in the last few days

I think Brew nailed it with the death of my clown

I will research your ich suggestion! Thanks!

If you have any questions about the product, FishVet is happy to talk with you. Just give them a call. I do have a couple other questions for you. Is your tank overcrowded? Too many fish in too little space will often cause aggression as they jockey for hiding places, resulting in stress and outbreaks. Also, many retailers run copper in their fish only systems to keep Ich at bay. Sometimes when a fish is removed from the copper and introduced to a system without it, it will break out if there's any excess stress in the acclimation or move to the new environment. Just throwing some things out there for you to help determine the cause of the outbreaks.

I did the Ick management for about 8 months. Tried every snake oil fix on the market with no luck. finally called my brother over to help me tear down the tank, 150g with 160lbs of pukani rock. It was the only way I could catch all the fish. 72-76 days fallow, halfway there. Not so bad, it allows to do some thing to DT I had wanted to get done. 2 months in the QT for every new fish from now on.

I don't think my tank is over crowded. Currently with 9 fish in a 75g.
I've QT's each one.
Exquisite wrasse
Redhead solon wrasse
yellow coris wrasse
leopard wrasse
clownfish
3 zebra barred gobies
bristletooth tang (he can be a jerk, but he's doing better now that he's settling more)

and in QT I have
Flame hawfish
royal gramma

Aside from one clown to replace the lost one, I won't be stocking any more fish

my LFS runs low salinity and low copper in their tanks.. the tang was in a coral tank on hold for me (since I had ordered it), so it wasn't in low salinity/copper like the others.

My exquisite is almost free of ich. I don't see it on anyone else.

I feel like brew was right and the death of my clown caused the stress- considering nothing else was amis since then
