Need I'd on these white 'swirls'

Hi

Noticed these swirls in my QT this weekend. I am not sure if they are all the same thing. Some on glass and some on rock. I have inverts and corals in this QT tank.

The inverts are hermits, cerith and Nerite

Any ideas ? Are they eggs or are they 2 different things ?

Looks like spoiribid (sp?) worms and pineapple sponges to me

Looks like pineapple sponge and spirorbid worms. Harmless.

+1 for spirorbid worms and pineapple sponges. The sponges are often found in new tanks, but can show up as hitchhikers. Filter feeders and harmless. Not sure what the worms feed on, but they come in on all sorts of things like rock, invert shells, frags, etc. Also harmless, but I have seen pics of them overwhelming pumps if they get out of hand. I'd leave both alone unless they don't appeal to your reef sense.

The top pic looks a bit like nerite eggs... Do you have any merited in your tank? The others are spirobid I believe.

Wait! This is a QT? Rock or sand are not really recommended for QT's. They have a tendency to uptake any medications you may add, particularly copper, which will dilute it and could lead to over medication further down the line. Also, antibiotics can destroy the bacterial bed within the rock, leading to an ammonia spike/cycle. PVC tubes are better, cheaper, and can be tossed at the end of the treatment. I only use rock to cycle my QT, then I pull it out and it goes back into my DT before I QT any livestock in the bare bottom tank. That way I preserve the bacterial bed to shorten my QT cycle if I have to tear it down after treatment (I generally leave it running, but have had to tear it down a couple of times for various reasons).

-Maggie - I don't know what merrited are ? Are they a type of snail ?

Oldsalt01- this is Coral and Invert QT, so no copper will be used, it would kill all the inverts. I just use dipping and time, 76 days to be exact.

Yes. I have some Nerites. So those could be Nerite eggs.. I wonder if they will hatch. Would like more
