Trying to ID what is growing in my tank. A few small tufts of reddish to brownish hairs. About 1/8” to 1/4” long. Yesterday there were also a couple similar single strands that were longer, about 1” and held a couple bubbles, but I did not see them today.

Tank is JBJ 45 Flat Panel AIO
Tank has been up for two months
NH3 = 0 ppm
NO3 = 4 ppm
PO4 = 0.24 ppm
dKH = 9.3
pH = 8.0
PAR is 240 peak at surface center, 120 peak at bottom center.

I only have the iPhone camera so these pictures are not great, but hopefully it will be enough for any experts out there. I am no expert on microscope viewing either, but maybe someone will notice something. I am kind of just throwing up what I have hoping someone might see something. I tried to use tweezers to remove and scrape them off the rock. It took force to remove them. I then viewed some of what I scraped, but not sure I got anything useful. Most of if drifted away when I removed it since it was so small.

I'm not sure what to make of this. Some of the long thin strands look to be cyano. No idea what the main structure it. :confused:

Have you tried a second sample by chance?

The larger structure to me looks like an arthropod shed and perhaps is complicating getting an id on the algae.

Those are really cool pics. I don't see dino cells.

Thanks folks. I know the pictures are terrible. Thought I would take a chance anyway. I will try again tomorrow as well I am sure I will have more to pull out. I figured the large structure was some crustacean, but had not considered it was just a shell which makes sense. It was not moving. I was hoping maybe there was something visually useful growing off of it.

I also thought the strands may be Cyanobacteria, although several of the images I searched seemed to indicate they were more “segmented.” I will try again tomorrow. Thanks

The algae I scraped off yesterday did not come back today. I do not think it is gone, it just did not rebloom overnight. I did have this video from yesterday. It is not that great either, but the size and the motion may give more detail.

Upon reflection, I should note this accumulated in probably the lowest flow area of the tank. Parameters tested today.

NH3 = 0 ppm
NO3 = 2 ppm
PO4 = 0.20 ppm
dKH = 9.4
pH = 7.8
