I have something that's growing in my tank and is spreading faster than wildfire. It's a white string-like thing that gets longer when the lights are off.

Like I said before it's spreading through my tank fast.

Is it bad and how do I get it under control?

Cheers.

They are a type of benthic Ctenophore, mostly nocturnal and predatory on micro fauna, mostly harmless.

Mostly harmless?? What's their effect on coral and fish? Is there a way to reduce them? They are literally doubling over night.

Resurrecting an old post. I am going through the same thing right now. Curious to see how it turned out for you? Did they eventually die off?

They are digitate hydroids, they come and go in my system, not really bothering anything, but if they seem to irritate corals you can remove them
They aren't digitate hydroids they are some type of benthic Ctenophore and it would be impossible to remove all of them. Hoping OP can chime in and let us know what the outcome was. Thanks.

I have had them before and they generally disappear on their won after a while, they are fairly similar to digitate hydroids at first glance though.

Yes they where there one day and the next day...boom they were gone. Don't attempt to remove them manually as it seems to make the problem worse. They will go away soon.
