Need ideas for a filter sock or floss placement. I lack space....

I would cut that pipe shorter and rig a basket up to the lip of the sump. Eshopps makes a fancy one, but strawberry baskets work great too.

I was going to cut the pipe shorter soon ! I want it to go 1" under the water surface to create more flow in the sump.

I didn't think about fixing a basket there and only removing the filter floss, good idea. If it overflows, it's gonna go in the sump anyway.

I don't mind filter socks, but they are hard to remove with the way the sump was made.

If you are going to run floss, you will want the pipe out of the water so the floss isn’t submerged and leaching the decaying matter back into the water rather than pulling it out. I’m not sure I follow when you say having it submerged increases flow. The flow is the same regardless of whether the pipe is submerged and having it drop through the air will give you the added benefit of increased surface aeration and potentially a little pH boost.

Won't it make a lot of noise doing this ?

I meant it would create more surface agitation in the sump, moving the bio film..

Ah yes, good point. My sump is loud but its in my basement below my display so doesn’t bother me. But really anyone running socks has to have a waterfall, so I’m wandering if the fleece or floss will dampen the sound. Maybe someone else will chime in…

Do you have room in your Pump Return Section? You could put a Filter Sock in there, and Divert Some of the Water off of your drain to the Sock. Or you could “T” off the Drain Pump into the Filter Sock. I do this on my Life Reef Sump. “T” off the Return Sump, Through a Media Chamber, then Through UV and back to the Return Pump Section. BTW, you don’t need to Filter all your, water on each pass.
