In the back of a Biocube 32, so space is tight. I'd rather not buy a bracket because of the space issue and I really want to get it up and running tomorrow, which means Home Depot and DIY. I saw some good ideas online using magnets but I'm not sure of the safety factor...don't they need to be coated with something? If so, what? Also so some ideas for bending acrylic, I could probably do something with that.

Yeah; be wary of magnets. I've thought about using them after dipping them in plastic (which they sell in the paint isle of HD and such), but I've not looked into whether the plastic stuff would leach anything I'd have to worry about. The magnets would also need to be stronger than normal to attach through the plastic in addition to everything else.

Bending acrylic can be done using a heat gun - or a hair dryer in a pinch. Make sure to do so in a well-ventilated area; the fumes could be bad.

you will have to find a specialty store for coated magnets. If you set on HD, then get you a little tube of silicone. Make a mold for the magnet and place the magnet in the middle of the mold and let set. Remove the magnet when cured and you will have a reef safe maget. YOu have to ensure the magnet is some what in the middle and suspended within the mold so that all of it is surrounded by silicone.
