Need Identification-Strange black algae or stuff

I set up a 35 gallon biocube predator tank for my son. However, I am having algae problems. What is strange is a black algae on the bottom of the tank. Yesterday during the water change I picked up some of the pieces. Does anyone know what type of algae or fungus it is? I am posting a picture.
