Hello to all. I am a new member. I have been reading your forums for a while and getting good info for my tank and corals. So to all who post here, THANK YOU!
With that said, I need help soon! I have a standard 55 gallon aquarium (48x13x20). It has been set up for 4 years total. Over the last year I have been doing a rebuild, slowly swapping out softies for Lps corals.
Now to the question. I had a Deep Blue solarmax 48” 2 bulb T5 light on my tank with factory bulbs. One was a 10k the other was an actinic 03. I Hated the washed out white look so I ordered an ATI Coral Plus to replace the 10k. Now that I have put it in the fixture my brain coral and candy act stressed almost to the point of death. It has been 8 days and they are not getting better. Actually worse. And just so I can cut this long post off, all other corals are doing great and all parameters are spot on. Is a coral plus that much more intense or is it weak. Help?

How old were the old bulbs you took out?

Welcome to R2R ! ! !

I'm thinking the new bulb is much stronger than your old one and if you didn't acclimate the tank to the new one, it is stressing out some of your lower light corals. You could try and move them to a more shaded area around the outside or partially under an overhang

Welcome to reef2reef! I agree with the others. If the bulbs are really old, their Spectrum and the amount of light intensity had decreased significantly and your corals got used to that. You add new bulbs and they're much brighter and more powerful therefore can stress out the corals because they're not used to it.

If possible, raise your light fixture 3" to 6" higher for a while, to allow the corals to acclimate.

Ether way, replacing them will have a impact on your corals. T5 bulbs will degrade over time.

When changing bulbs, always raise your light fixture or reduce the amount of time they are on for a couple of weeks to allow your corals to acclimate to the new bulbs.
