My 70 watt retro is whistling. It's coming from the bulb.

I bought a new bulb thinking that would help and it didn't.

Anyone ever had this happen?

2 questions:

If you were to remove the bulb and turn on the lights does it still whistle?
Does the ceramic around the ends of the bulb have any burn on it?

The second question refers to proper placement on the two pins inside the fixture. I had an issue with my DE fixture until I realized that I wasn't sitting it between the pins correctly.

I also have 3 DE bulbs my middle one has a slight buzz also . Good idea ! I will check to see if it is seated properly.:nerd:

I didn't try it without the bulb. I figured since the bulb was where the sound was coming from (the ballast is 3 feet away) that had to be it. I will test it.

Also, I will try to make sure I have a good tight fit.

Thanks!

None of the above worked.

I do have a question. The diagram on the ballast shows a ground symbol for the case. I have it grounded to the green wire on the power chord, however, there is no ground to the fixture itself. Should I run a ground to the fixture as well?

It has run for a year without whistling and I wonder if this would help.

It's a modded current dual 40 watt PC. I pulled out the dual daylight bulb and installed a 70 watt MH and then cut glass to replace the acrylic splash shield.

I am running a fulham highhorse 70 electronic ballast. The endcaps are from a halogen worklight.

Like I said this setup has been great for a year just all of the sudden started whistling.

Weird huh?
