I've got 180 gallon aquarium that is mostly sps (acros). I am currently using two maxpect gyre 150's and a Tunze Stream 3. My flow has been ok but it l0oks like I could use more. One of my Gyre's has a bad impeller and I need to replace the unit. I'm not sure what to get. Any ideas? Here's a fts.... a functional gyre on the left and a tunze Stream 3 Hidden behind the rock work on the right.

I'm thinking of replacing one of the gyre's with a 280. An mp60 just seems too expensive.

Thoughts? Recommendations?

i have a 2 gyre 250 in my 120 and I run it around 40% so that would probably work for you.. I might consider a normal pump right on the middle of the back glass pointed towards the front.

Seriously considering it... too much? 700gph than the 250. Is that a lot? Doesn’t seem like it.
I'd think ;Wacky you could ramp the flow down on the 280 to your liking :)

Agreed, 700gph is alot when talking about gyres. They move water differently. Just ramp it down and you'll be good. It will be a big difference from the one you had.

I dont like the quality of the gyre. Same problem broken impellers, cable split near the motor.

I bought two coral box qp16s pretty good pump so far for the month ive had them. For $ 240 cad i havent even spent2/3 of a gyre and got better flow.

what size tank are you running the qp16s on, and what coral stock do you keep in there?
I have been kicking around the idea of 4 or 5 in a 180 sps. I like the single controller concept.
Also hows the noise level at 100%

I have a couple of sps and softies. The qp16s are on a 200 ish gallon. But actual dimentions of water is 66" long, 24" wide and 24" tall. So about 165 gallon. I just use those two on one side and my 2400 gallon return on a sea swirl at the other end. Everything blows around with that flow. I have crushed coral and even that blows gently at the bottom.

Full speed i get a ton of flow on one side. They are adjuatable speed and differebt modes like an ecotek. Pretty good pumps for the money imo. Had only 2 months but no problems yet. My only complaints are the night sensor is weak, needs strong light to activate, so having the controller inside the sump wont activate night mode. And the off button is just by unplugging it. Other than that they are great.

4 or 5 would be sweet for flow. You probably would only need 4, two on each end imo. For sps. For softies, theyd be blown around hard even on the lowest setting. The lowest setting is really like half the flow.

Its not noisy at all. But my tanks very loud so i dont really hear anything lol. But initially they were quiet. Qp stands for quiet pump irrc.

Thanks for the response i have been doing some research on them and like what i have found. Its good to get an opinion from a user though.
I currently have gyres on the other tanks but they are pretty loud at 100% even though they do move water well.
Im notworried about the night senser, the ocean doesn't calm at night ididnt understand why they would add that.
So theres no power switch?
Oh yeah sps dominate with some lps on the bottom.

Yup no power switch. If you plug it in while the power supply is plugged in it makes a spark. But if not if you plug the power supply first when its all connected.
