Anyone know of a replacement pump for a Bubble King 300 External that is (much) more economical that the Red Dragon pump on it? The current pump is a Red Dragon Bubble King 2000. The skimmer was purchased in ~2011 so its that vintage of skimmer.

As an alternative, does anyone know of re-manufactured RD pumps? I have not found a good place to get started on getting the skimmer functional again.

I've got no bubbles :(

thanks, byron

Might help to know what the problem is if you want to get the old working again.

E.g. Does it stutter start? Does it not blow bubbles? Did the pump die in a fire? ;)

Otherwise I'd say look at a Tunze Hydrofoamer.

the needle wheel wont stay on the armature shaft front, front and rear shaft bushings appear shot, housing is cracked where 2 of the front bolts mount so cant tighten bolts...

an entire armature unit including the front plate and needle wheel might fix it??? but then I would still have the cracked housing to content with.

I will check out the Tunze... is it a drop in replacement unit for a BK?

the Tunze appears to be an in-sump pump, maybe I'm not looking closely enough at the data sheet. My BK is External.

Can you post a picture of your set up?

You said you were looking for a bubble pump and that's what the Hydro former is.

Whether it matches your plumbing is certainly an open question.

another thought: anyone know who might overhaul Red Dragon units for the BK300 external?

It's likely repairable by someone setup to do that.

If you think there's a chance you could sell that skimmer, that might be the way to go. I've never heard of anybody refurbishing skimmer equipment, but perhaps somebody else can chime in with better info.

I don't see why the Tunze skimmer pump wouldn't work theoretically, but give them a call tomorrow at the number on their website.

the Red Dragon pump is in the lower right, it is feed by a Iwaki...

you may be right, but last I saw the pump is $800-$900 I think so I'm hoping to get operational again for way less than that...

What does the input to the skimmer from the pump look like? I've looked at a few photos, but can't see it in any of them so far....

Do you know if the fittings are metric?

Look at the Varios line from reef octopus. Not sure but the -6 might be big enough. What was the old pump? LPH? GPH? Water/air? Wattage? DC or AC?

Shoot him an call or email explaining the issues with the pump, he will be able to assist you if you choose to go the RD route....They are normally repairable before you have to place the block.

This is the direction I was pointed with my RD pump issues*

thanks guys, I will check those leads... I agree w repairing it... and it was great until it broke :) everything wears down eventually
