Hello all!

I just bought a clarisea SK-5000 gen 3 and was wondering what depth I should install it at. And what others have experienced with it being higher up in the sump vs lower.

I noticed on the back of the quick start assembly guide that comes with it, it states that the higher it is is the sump it will have higher head pressure and the the fleece life more longevity.

I'm just wanting to make sure I get this right before I start removing baffles from my sump and have no mechanical filtration at all.

Thanks in advance!

The height will be driven by your water level in the sump chamber where you install it. The sensor on the device recognizes when the water level rises above the sensor. At that point, it advances the fleece roll until the water level drops back below the sensor. Hence, the maximum submersion depth of 8 inches. The longer it takes to rise to the level of the sensor, the longer it will go between automatic advances of the fleece.

Hi, I don't have one of these roller filters I have the bubble magus type but maybe I can shed some light as to the general height, my bubble magus has a line for the level of the water it's supposed to be fitted at, but because of the hanging type mount I have on it I have 2 choices first is too deep or 2nd choice is too shallow so I went with shallow and put my hanging brackets lower on the filter unit

In my ignorance of these types of filters, as I have been a sock user for many years, I didn't think about the float switch that operates the motor for winding but the water in my roller filter enters via a kind of spray bar type entrance obviously with bigger holes but this causes a boiling looking affect in the chamber and as a result the float switch doesn't slowly rise and return when advancing occurs as I imagined but more a short small advance then nothing for a few hours and again 1-2 seconds motor advances then stop repeat etc, so my roll lasts near on 2 months, but I don't know what the 'normal' pace of use is for your type of roller filter, hope this helps you and it's working out well, it's a good investment in the tank, mine has helped me in stability of my parameters more than I was expecting

Well i ended up inatalling it at about 2 inches in the water and it really seems to be working well. Hand down the best purchase i have made for thos tank! I love how quite it is too. Hoping it will help with nitrates and phosphates, not that they are bad.

Hey, so im thinking of getting a clarisea. Just want to confirm, the water level in that chamber remains constant, right? As the roll gets dirty the water level inside the clarisea itself rises to the point that the sensor trips, right? Or does the water level in the entire sump rise until the sensor is tripped?

essentially what im asking is, does the clarisea function as a “crash box”?

No that doesn't happen, only inside the chamber of the fleece roller will the level rise, all models will work the same just different arrangements but essentially a chamber gets filled then roller advances the chamber level will decreases again, your sump level will be unaffected
