So I just recently set up a 30 gallon tank and it's currently going through its cycling process. I have a hang on the back filter right now the seems to be doing okay... but I'm not a huge fan I'm thinking of doing a sump but I don't know the much about them or if I even need to do a sump if so where can I find one that is suitable for my tank? Please and thank you

You don't need an actual "sump". You can use an empty aquarium.
Depending on the size of your stand you can fit whatever sized aquarium. For a 30 gallon you could probably fit a 20 tall under the stand. You don't NEED the fancy sections actually, my first sump was kinda just a mess. However if you choose to use baffles you can ask somebody to cut some plexiglass for you if you cant do it yourself and give him like $10 lol. Then silicone them in but it must be 100% silicone. Poof, sump done for cheap!

Welcome to Reef2reef!

You can most certainly do a saltwater tank without a sump. HOB skimmers are out there and at some point you may need it.

Undrilled tanks can have a sump under them by using a HOB overflow box. Sumps can be made by using a smaller tank that you silicone glass panels in to create sections for a skimmer and return area. The big advantage of a sump is that all of your equipment can be in it, heaters, return pump, skimmer....etc. and cleans up the way the DT looks and adds extra water volume that helps with water pramameter stability.

Sump is for filtration and additional equipments, which brings the question what livestock you plan to keep, and what's your current filtration setup? You don't need to have sump, and there can be hob filter/skimmer/refugium if needed. Sump just makes it easier.
