Hey,

So I have been thinking its about time to upgrade my lights and my budget is about $250 so I was thinking of either the Kessil A150 (don't know which of the 4 would be best) or the SuperLux by Reefbreeders. I have heard really good things about both but wanted some fisrt hand accounts. Are the Kessils controllable without having to buy anything? Also I am open for other suggestions too and pictures of tanks with the lights would be much appreciated

Thanks!
Shep

Sorry, should have posted that. Its a normal 20g tank, I think its 24x12x17.

Hi, Shep!
I have the Kessil A150 blue on my 40 breeder. I've had it for awhile now. I have it centered, before it was more to the left of the tank. I was going for a dimly lit side for NPS, but I haven't gotten so far as to buying any NPS corals. It has decent spread. I'm not one that is picky about shadows. I love them and think having the tank lit up like the sun is slightly unnatural. Anyways, my thoughts.

Pros:
  • Shimmer
  • Small, negligble space
  • Quiet
Cons:
  • Lack of features
  • instant on, instant off
It's a light. It's nothing more and is nothing less. I don't know if intensity can be controlled. Perhaps via a controller, I don't know as I don't have one.
I look forward to seeing Kessil's slender and sexy looking platform light. I don't know if it has a name, but I seen it featured on one of BRStv's videos.

As for coral growth, eh...I feel like I could be getting better. I've been looking at a few different LEDs. Your tank isn't very deep and would be ok for the Kessil. I don't know about the other light listed. Check out the Maxspect Razor Nano. I'm considering going with them. That's the fun part of this hobby; research.

id buy this one and save 175 bucks... its just a 20 gallon tank afterall... that 175 bucks you save from your budget could just about fully equip the tank, or stock it nicely. i have it on my 28 jbj nanocube and its total overkill, dimmed to 20% and still growing sps...

not only is it a good light, it will be suitable to upgrade to a bigger tank, just turn the dimmer up to a higher power level. i know they are advised for 2x2' coverage, but i have a buddy with the nicest tank i have ever seen personally with 2 of these over a 6 foot tank with the healthiest corals i have ever seen. not trying to sell you on a chinese light... just speaking from my own experience.

problem with the 150's is you cant control the color. not sure if thats important to you, if so spring for the a360we's fully controlable and if you search around you could get one for $300. much better light IMHO.
