Need quick advice

I'm sorry, After rereading my post, I came off sounding very rude. Not my intention in any way!
I have a tank that I bought as a 47 gallon. After adding 40lbs of sand and 60lbs of rock I figured it would hold about 35 gallons. bought 40 to be sure and was short a couple gallons of water filling it. Dimensions were listed as 20x18x30. Turns out its actually 20x20x31 so about 8 gallons more. 60x18x21 would be 98 gal but manufactures routinely round up. Doesn't really matter, I hope I can maintain any one of my tanks for half the 40 years yours has been going!

I read your post 37 times and I even had a retired Supermodel read it to me but I couldn't find anything rude in there. Try again, but this time call me bald or senile as well.

The wider the better in my opinion since it allows for some cool aquascaping options. My last two tanks have been 30" wide with external overflows so that has given me a lot of room for corals and to circulate water in and around my reef structure. However, reef tanks are a very personal thing....

Like everyone else is saying, it all depends on how you scape your rock work. Ultimately, like Reefbum says, reef tanks are very personal and what looks good to you may not be appealing to others.

If you look at tanks that are 18" front to back and 24" front to back online, when in the hands of a skilled aquascaper they are able to do some amazing things. It really depends on personal preference, but I think with either you can make it look great and would be happy with it.
