So this tank has been up for over a year. Over the last 6 weeks or so I can't get the water level down in the overflow so it's not rushing into the emergency drain. This causes that annoying chugging sound in the sump. I've turned the adjustment knob both right and left 100 times. I don't know if it's not opening and closing the valve? The level doesn't move an inch in the over flow. I've even sped up and turned down the speed of my return pump. Anyone have suggestions?

Did you check the main pipe to make sure it's not clogged like a snail or something maybe got in there?

As stated above, it sounds like something is clogged.... whether it be the actual pipe or the valve itself. The Red Sea valve is comprised of a diaphragm that expands and contracts with slight adjustments of the dial. I'm guessing that there's a buildup of something inside the valve... it should be cleaned periodically. You can simply pop off the four black plastic caps and then disassemble the valve by removing the allen bolts underneath the caps. Make sure that area is clean and also check the inlet and outlet to the valve.

Good to know they need cleaned every once in a while. The smaller RSR's are much more difficult to fine tune. 750xxl is much easier to keep flow adjusted

Or you could do what I did and get rid of that piece of junk for a real gate valve.
Can you post link to that valve? My buddy and I have 3 combined. Might be nice to have a couple on the parts shelf.

It's just a regular 1" Spears Gate Valve. These things last forever and no need to have to take apart a diaphragm to clean like the one Red Sea provides.

I found it! I had a frag plug right where the tubing hits the diaphragm! It's gone and now she's purring like a kitten! I did have a little water leak issue... but that's reefing. My motto is "if you didn't need two t shirts and at least 8 clean towels to mop it up... it was just a water change!"

I want to order this gate valve. Do I have just to order it and that's it ? Or I have to buy other things in odrer it fit to my reefer 170 ?
Then, I just have to remove the reefer valve and replace it with the new ?
